coaching for individuals and groups
I am an executive coach, organisational consultant, leadership educator and social entrepreneur with over two decades of cross-sector experience.
Over the years, I have worked as a consultant and executive leadership coach for more than a decade and has held senior executive roles since 2008.
I work at the intersection of leadership practice, research, and transformational learning, supporting leaders, teams, and change-makers to navigate complexity, uncertainty, and meaningful transition in both their professional and personal lives.
Charlotte von Bülow, PhD, M.Ed., FHEA, CMgr MCMI
About your coach
-
Coaching with me is holistic, effective, and emergent, grounded in real-world leadership experience and deep reflective practice. Coaching is not a linear process or a pre-designed pathway. Instead, it is a shared inquiry: we co-create the road as we walk it. Along the way, every stone that needs turning is turned — thoughtfully, courageously, and with care.
We will work with your life as a whole, recognising that leadership, identity, purpose, work, and relationships are deeply interconnected. Much of the work unfolds in the liminal spaces of conversation — in attention, presence, sense-making, and relational dynamics — where genuine insight and transformation arise.
I continuously develop and refine coaching methods drawn from lived experience, research, and practice. My work blends dialogic coaching, reflective inquiry, systems thinking, and attentional awareness to support deep and lasting change.
-
Over the years, I have specialised in, among others:
Developing individual agency and self-leadership for personal and professional transformation
Working with uncertainty, complexity, and transition
Transformative leadership and management coaching
Deep organisational change and development
Strategic and operational leadership practice
Coaching for teams and groups
Start-ups, social entrepreneurship, and purpose-led organisations
-
My work is underpinned by a strong ethical orientation and a belief that meaningful change emerges through deep inquiry, relational intelligence, and reflective practice. I support leaders to cultivate authentic agency, adaptive capacity, and leadership presence — enabling them to act purposefully, responsibly, and with lasting impact.
Alongside my coaching and consultancy practice, I am also Senior Lecturer in Leadership at Bristol Business School, University of the West of England, where I teach on MBA and MSc programmes and mentors executives in reflective leadership practice, ethical attentional awareness, and innovation in organisational development. My academic work draws on my doctoral research into leadership as a way of being, the ethics and practice of attention in the workplace and working with uncertainty.
-
Over the years, I have been privileged to be part of a vibrant movement of innovators education, leadership and research. I have designed and delivered leadership development programmes across universities, global NGOs, public health systems, and private sector organisations internationally. In 2007, I started the Crossfields Institute, which become a recognised UK awarding organisation, consultancy, and higher education provider. Later, I established Crossfields Europa to continue the work in leadership research, consulting, and coaching.
Clients span sectors and geographies and include healthcare, education, technology, justice, social care, NGOs, and multinational organisations.

Charlotte is the most exceptional coach I have ever worked with. She is a brilliant guide, facilitator, and overall inspiration who embodies levity, precision, creativity, and wisdom through her presence.
She creates a space that invites clarity and depth of thought and encourages more of me to step forward to meet the situation at hand. As a coach there is an artfulness to her approach. She can move between the practical and philosophical with incredible grace. In short periods of time, Charlotte has a way of getting to the heart of things. She invites reflection and helps me notice more, which has widened my perspective and helped me connect with new possibilities.
Additionally she has helped me find my own sense of stability in times of uncertainty. Each session with Charlotte is profoundly meaningful. Our work together has rippled out to touch all areas of my life.

I have been an academic for 30 years, 20 of them in senior roles. I had never had coaching before and someone recommended Charlotte von Bülow. Three years on I can honestly say that enlisting Charlotte's support is one of the best decisions I have ever made in my working life. She immediately helped me to understand how common and 'normal' my doubts and struggles were and she has helped me enormously in several ways. I found her coaching inspirational and nothing less than life-changing and cannot recommend her highly enough.
— Professor Harry Ferguson, Department of Social Work and Social Care, University of Birmingham
The leadership coaching provided by Charlotte von Bülow was nothing short of transformative. Her approach, both inspirational and pragmatic, prompted a profound reevaluation of my career trajectory. Through her careful guidance, I gained a deeper understanding of the motivations behind my decisions, both conscious and unconscious, and developed a clearer vision for future work and self. Charlotte's perceptive and attentive nature, combined with her thoughtful and constructive coaching style, has equipped me with invaluable tools for critical self-analysis, and these have been instrumental in refining my decision-making process. It is with complete confidence that I recommend Charlotte as an exceptional career and leadership coach. Her influence has been a pivotal point in my professional development.
— Dr Stuart McClean, Associate Professor in Public Health (Health and Wellbeing) University of the West of England.
I have worked with Crossfields for the past several months, as a member of a Strategic Planning Committee of a complex organization, which had engaged Crossfields to lead and guide our efforts. Clarity of thought, attention to design and process, skill at interviewing, sensitivity to personal dynamics, and concise and illuminating comments helped us to navigate a daunting process. I cannot imagine how we would have managed without their encouragement and good humor keeping us focussed and on task to successful completion of the project. My only regret is that the process is now over and I will miss our close engagement with the Crossfields team.
— L. Sackler, Hawthorne Valley School
I sought Charlotte 's coaching expertise due to my longstanding admiration for her professional achievements and intellectual depth. While I was initially drawn to her impressive background, I was unaware of her extensive experience in the coaching realm. My primary goal was to engage with someone who could challenge my assumptions and provide grounded guidance based on their own experience. From the outset, Charlotte fostered a rapport that was both supportive and stimulating, creating a safe space for exploration and growth. Her ability to truly guide and shape the coaching journey was remarkable. She expertly tailored a process that resonated deeply with my personal and professional aspirations. Importantly, Charlotte encouraged a deliberate pace, allowing time for reflection and integration, which countered my initial tendency towards rapid execution. This approach proved invaluable. Throughout the coaching engagement, I benefited immensely from a balance of accountability, permission to innovate, and the opportunity to explore the alignment between my professional priorities and deeper passions. Charlotte’s exceptional listening and reflection skills enabled her to truly understand my context, a testament to her ability to connect with and support her clients effectively. The impact of this coaching experience has been profound and transformative, both personally and professionally. It isn’t an understatement to say it has been lifechanging and am deeply grateful for the experience that arrived at such a perfect time in my life when I was exploring professional changes that felt unwieldy and difficult to pin down. I wholeheartedly recommend Charlotte’s coaching.

“The work with Crossffields was invaluable, as there was no way I could have undertaken the tasks I was confronted with without this support. Not only was my leadership development coach a good talking partner as I stepped up to take on a new role, but I also got new perspectives on leadership when I prepared to retire and be self-employed again. Keywords and processes: creativity, openness, transparency, humor, somebody having my back; feeling supported when vulnerable; challenged when necessary; educated when lacking insight; and celebrated when successful, which often as leaders we are not. I felt I could rely on my coach not only as somebody who understood my predicament, helping me to overcome pictures of myself that were detrimental to my progress. Because of my coach's life experience and understanding of the complexity of the predicament, I found myself in at Grendon HMP, she made me feel normal and this is what happens in any organization. Crossfields helped me craft my ideas into robust manageable processes that enabled successful outcomes. The most inspiring part was being able to take advice into my work and feel myself flourish in ways I had not dreamed of.”

Charlotte supported me through an extremely challenged period of my professional and personal life with her expert coaching. She has a unique blend of speaking to the epicentre of an issue with directness, compassion, and integrity. She is an exceptionally skilled coach with a sixth sense which provided me with clarity on my challenges and helped me move through them with positive outcomes. My time with her was transformative, always supportive and perceptive. I am immensely grateful to have benefitted from her guidance and focus.
